Holidays can be enjoyable and stressful at the same time. With continued deadlines, activities, and social invitations, our schedule can get hectic and not merry. If you’ve had a stressful year like me sister, then it’s time to put the agenda down and take care of yourself. This holiday season, treat yourself to some zen moments and less to drama marathons. Sometimes all it takes is a simple NO.
To enter 2018 with grace and strength, it is important to make small changes. The holidays can be stressful if we don’t know how to prioritize our needs. Here are 3 easy steps to become better at taking care of yourself and de-stress.
Tips to Reduce Holiday Stress
1. Enjoy some me time
Schedule a Christmas movie marathon or book that massage or spa you’ve been wanting for a while. Go shopping and splurge on that piece of item. Holidays tend to become stressful just finding gifts for others. A little selfishness is ok as long you don’t overspend. Embrace your guilty pleasures in moderation and if you feel too guilty grab something for your friend or family.
2. Practice Togetherness
Plan a brunch date with your friends or get together with your family for a sleep over. Holiday stress can make us forget the meaning of it when shopping errands strike in. Take this time to build a stronger bond with your loved ones and connect with those you haven’t seen in a while. When we get older we will appreciate the people around us and less about trivial things such as clothes.
3. Slow Down
We live in an instant delivery culture, where we want everything fast and now. It can be stressful to do many things at once and give our full attention. Instead, practice the art of NO and slow down. You don’t need to cross everything off your to-do-list. Multitasking can get out of hand during the holidays. Do one thing at a time and focus on wellness. For example: eat slow, read a book and breath deeply. Take one step at a time and enjoy the present the holidays bring.
